Quiz: What is your American accent?

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on

Western. Like Midland, Western is another accent that people consider neutral. So, you might not actually be from the Western half of the country, but you definitely sound like it.

And if you're not from the West, you are probably one of the following:
(a) A Pittsburgher - the quiz can't tell the difference;
(b) Someone from Canada (probably southern Ontario) who doesn't have a Canadian accent;
(c) Someone from northern New England who doesn't have a New England accent; or
(d) Someone from Texas or the Heartland who was born after 1980.
You are definitely not from New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Detroit, the Deep South, etc.</font>

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

I swear, I'm going to be looking at the calendar on my computer all day making absolutely sure that today is November 8th.

Check out to see the countdown clock* that tells you how long before Conan is officially back on TV where he belongs.

*I tried to post the code here, but it wasn't working for some reason.

Damn Annoying Calls!

So I've handed in three job applications so far and have been waiting for a call from one of them. I have been getting calls, but none of them are from the places I've applied; instead they are calls about whether or not I'm going to be voting in the election on November 2nd. What makes it tricky is both things would be calling me "Julianne", so I hear that name thinking it's going to be about an interview but it's actually about voting.

The last straw was last night around 7:00 PM. I was downstairs in the basement doing some cleaning when my mom comes down and says that there's a call for me. I'm running up the stairs as fast as possible and I grab the receiver and say hello, only to hear "Hi, Julianne. This is blah-blah; are you going to be voting on November 2nd?" I said yes, and when they asked me another question I said I was busy and hung up. I've had enough so I've decided that when either my mom or I answers the phone, we'll both immediately say "May I ask who's calling?" before we do anything else.

As to why I'm the one getting all the political calls, I figure it's because I'm probably classified as a "young voter" and those seem to be the votes that matter most, plus it seems that this election year is a really crucial one so they want guarantees that someone is going to vote. The calls will most likely be more frequent in a couple of weeks, so I have a feeling there'll be a lot of may-I-ask-who-is-callings to come. Bleh.

(Real) Long Time No See

This is my first post in over a year, so I thought I would give a very quick update.

I'm still without a job and have been getting job applications. I really, really need the money now because my mother needs to use her money to pay her bills and for medication and can't afford to pay for my stuff, like the pills I take for facial hair issues and now the weekly allergy shots I have to get (thanks to my newfound allergies to ragweed, cats and certain molds). I might have to put together a sob story since my "shady" work history might be the thing that prevents me from getting hired at places. Too bad I'm too fat to be a stripper. :)

Got to go. I only wanted to be on this computer for a few minutes and that was three hours ago. I was spending the time reading all my old entries on here instead of saving it for tomorrow. That's just the way I roll, I guess. :)

Good night.

Conan's Tonight Show Debut - The Aftermath

To put it simply: It was great! I loved every single minute of the show.

Other random comments about the show:

The last half hour before the show started was nervewracking. The clock felt like it was crawling at a snail's pace plus I was totally full of nerves, partly because there was a chance that the power would go out because of a storm (that never happened, thank God) and also because of the show; really no reason to be nervous since it's not like I'm the one making their hosting debut on the Tonight Show or Conan's wife, but I was anyway.

When the show started (at 11:33, two minutes before the Late Show would start; probably not a coincidence) and Conan was on the screen for the first time, I cheered so loud my neighbors would probably hear if their houses were close to mine. I like the whole "running from NY to LA" bit and laughed at the part where he ran past the Victorian doll shop and then backtracked to he could so inside.

Hearing Andy's voice as announcer for the first time made me so happy; I am so glad he's back. I hope they bring back some of their classic sketches, though not the staring contest since that had a good ending on Andy's final Late Night show where he finally won.

The Big Day Is Here!

In nine hours and 40-something minutes, I will be watching the debut of The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien!

You have no idea how excited I am about this; I've had the biggest smile on my face the entire day and keep checking the DirecTV guide every couple of hours so I can see it get closer and closer to showtime. June 1st seemed like so far away and now it's here! I can't wait!

Now I REALLY can't wait for June 1st!

He's BA-A-A-A-ACK!

Andy Richter to Rejoin Conan O’Brien as ‘Tonight Show’ Announcer

Andy Richter is reuniting with Conan O’Brien, signing on to serve as announcer for Mr. O’Brien’s new incarnation of “The Tonight Show.”

On “Tonight,” Mr. Richter will not be a nightly desk-side presence as he was on “Late Night.” He will, however, participate in both live and pre-taped comedy bits.
